Ocean City local weather
Ocean City, with its proximity between Isle of Wight Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, is in a temperate climate. Oceanfront temperatures can be several degrees cooler than inland locations in the summer and several degrees warmer than those same locations in winter. Spring, summer and fall are prime seasons for Ocean City, when festivals, watersports and fishing are at their best. Whereas most visitors think of Ocean City only for summer fun, the mid to late spring and early fall are also well worth a visit. There are just enough seasonal differences in Ocean City that local residents seem to appreciate each season and look forward to the next.
Winter
Winters are short in duration and quite mild, while spring and fall tend to linger with grand bursts of color. Late fall and winter are ideal times to bird watch on the famous Atlantic Flyway that crosses the Eastern Shore. The seasonal changes are when the north-south migrations are at their peak. Golf is another great year-round sport in the area, when a sunny winter day can offer a great invitation to take the challenge of a favorite eighteen.
Spring
Temperatures become quite pleasant, and the promise of balmy breezes and sunny days finds sweaters off and windows up. Flowers and trees begin their long reign of glory with a most magnificent debut. The trees bud, the flowers open and bloom, and color awakens in every imaginable size and shape. The Delmarva Birding Weekend is a welcome celebration for spectators and birdwatchers alike. Say golf, and you'll find it in abundance; say leisure sports and participate in the Ocean to Bay Bike Tour at Fenwick Island and Bethany Beach and you can keep the whole family happy; say romance and you'll find lovers dining al fresco on a warm afternoon. Say shopping and the outlets and gift shops are yours for the indulging. Whether you're spending a week or a day, a Ocean City spring is sure to satisfy your senses.
Summer
Summers offer great temperatures for fun in the sun. Summer nights are a time of mega activity along the 'Boards' where nightlife runs the gamut from sunset cruises to nightclubs, music and amusement rides. Summer festivals in adjacent communities are as varied as anyone can imagine, from historical celebrations, car and bike shows, seafood festivals, to pony pennings, blueberry fests and fishing tournaments.
Autumn
This is one of the area's most beautiful times of year. Warm September days wind down into crisp October afternoons, and spectacular fall color begins to turn trees into works of art. The foliage-feast-for-the-eyes surrounds you as you wander in and out of local galleries, gardens, exhibits and shops at Ocean City and historic areas in Berlin and Rehoboth Beach. Autumn color peaks at the end of the month and lasts well into November, which leads into the nearby World Championship Punkin Chunkin in Bridgeville. The days are quite pleasant — a sweater or light jacket will suffice. Night frosts don’t appear until mid November to early December, and even then, the aroma of hearth fires burning and apple cider brewing will make you want to linger in the fresh evening air. Make Ocean City and environs your favorite fall getaway. You'll be glad you did.
